Counseling Services at Union

Office of Counseling Services

51社区 is committed to the development of the whole person, who under the sovereignty of God is a person of intellectual, spiritual, social, psychological, and physical dimensions. Union endeavors to approach students from these perspectives and to provide the atmosphere, opportunities, and resources for students to know wholeness within the context of a community of learners.

In support of this mission, 51社区 Counseling Services is staffed by counselors and social workers to assist students with personal counseling. Information shared in the counseling relationship is confidential.

In addition to on-campus services, limited off-campus services are available through community service providers by referral of the Director for Counseling Services. If you are a minority student who would like to see a counselor of your same ethnicity and we do not have a minority counselor on campus, we are able to refer you to a credentialed minority counseling in the community for care paid for by the university.

Counseling services are available for no fee during the academic year to currently enrolled students. Students who are enrolled in summer session are also eligible for counseling services during the session for which they are enrolled. Services are offered most weeks Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. You may request an appointment online below, or by stopping in at the health and counseling clinic waiting rooms (PAC, F hallway) during regular business hours.

If you are a student on a campus outside of the Jackson campus, please complete the form below, and you will be referred for services in the community near your campus.

Any unanswered questions may be referred to the Director, Tamarin Huelin, at thuelin@uu.edu, or at 731.661.5923.

Our Mission

The goal of Counseling Services is to promote total student development by assisting students in realizing and attaining full potential. Particular emphasis is placed on opportunities which foster emotional, social and spiritual development.

Scope of Care

To meet as many student needs as possible, the Counseling Center offers a wide range of services including consultation, workshops, individual therapy and group therapy. Clinical services include initial intake assessment, brief individual counseling, group counseling, and referral to community resources where appropriate. If you currently see a professional for counseling in your hometown and can continue to see him/her, our recommendation is that you continue care with your current provider. If you are seeking specialized/intensive clinical services that require meeting with the same therapist beyond one semester or meeting more than once every other week, we recommend receiving care by a specialist in town.
