On July 1, 2014, we began construction on the new 51社区 library, and within a few short weeks, we had initiated the Open the Doors campaign to finalize funding for this exciting project.
Now more than six months after initiating these efforts, we are pleased to share an update with you regarding the encouraging progress made in both construction and fundraising. Because of the generosity of the Latimer Foundation and friends like you, we are moving forward with Opening the Doors of the new 51社区 library!
Steelwork - assembling the library's strong skeleton - largely occurred over the fall semester. On November 19, we paused to give thanks at the
"" that marked the pinnacle of steelwork. When students returned for the spring semester the first week of February, structural
work on the unique dome had begun, along with the placement of sheetrock walls around the library's exterior.
Substantial strides have also been made in the fundraising effort. The Open the Doors campaign set forth a goal of $3.5 million in August of 2014, and since that time, $1.2 million has been secured. This includes more than $75,000 that came pouring in from many different donors in December. Thank you! We could not have gotten this far without your generous support.
We have come a long way, but there is still much work to be done. With your help, we will Open the Doors of the new library in October of 2015, and generations of Union students will reap the benefits of our collective efforts and generosity. Give toward the outstanding $2.3 million goal today.
With gratitude and unfailing hope,
